The Uncomfortable Table (2024)
23.6 x 23.6 x 60.6 | Resin, Table, Mixed-Media
In contemporary society, people often recognize serious social issues yet remain indifferent or passive, a stance that ultimately worsens these problems.
I created Uncomfortable Table to capture the moment when people admit, “Yes, I know this is wrong,” and then keep passing the plates. Uncomfortable Table freezes that moment in place. This piece stages a dessert table where the “problem” sits in plain sight and still reads as decoration. I cast small forms, such as mice and horn-like growths, in clear resin and arranged them among treats and serving ware. The mouse stands in for the problem everyone recognizes and avoids. The transparency is the point: something is obviously there, but it doesn’t demand attention, so it’s easy to pretend it isn’t there at all.
