Additional Details | “Contemplation by the Fireside” is a self-portrait of myself sitting by the fireside with my feline companions, surrounded by a sense of warmth and safety. Outside the window is dim darkness. I wanted to paint how I choose comfort while knowing that the outside world is bleak. It’s not about guilt, but more so about the slight tension that sits inside rest: “Am I allowed to feel okay right now?” In one painting, protection and an edge under it exist at the same time.
